How to install Remix OS: Run Android on your PC
Want to experience the awesomeness of Android to your PC? You can install Remix OS. Remix OS is a brand new operating system that is based on Android OS. Yes, It is a complete OS not an emulator which has been designed for desktop mode.
There is no rocket science required to install Remix OS, as it is pretty straight forward and really easy as compared to other OS. You can also boot it from USB in case you want to try it for some time first.
Things you should have:
- Torrent Downloading Client.
- Remix OS 2.0 and Remix OS USB Installer.
- USB 3.0 (USB 2.0 can work but will be slower)
- BIOS Should have Legacy Boot Mode Enabled (Or Enable it manually)
- 8 GB USB Drive (FAT32 Format)
- Windows PC.
Since Remix OS is only available to download as a torrent, you need to download and install a torrent downloading software, I would recommend using uTorrent.
Download the Remix OS installation files from the official site.
While Remix OS is being downloaded, you should format your USB, and change the file system to FAT32 which Remix OS needs.
Make sure you backup any important data on the USB first. You will lose all the data if you format it.
After you are done with downloading the Remix OS files, browse to them. You will find two files in the folder.
- Remix OS disc image (bootable ISO file)
- Remix OS Installation Tool
Double-click on the Remix OS installation tool, read the instructions written on, carefully.
Click browse button, and select the Remix OS ISO file that you just downloaded. It should be called something like Remix OS for PC_x86_64-B2016xxxxxx.iso
Now if you want to try Remix OS first, then select the ‘USB’, and if you want to directly install it on your hard drive to make it dual boot, then select ‘Hard Disk’.
Choose the appropriate drive in the next menu and click ‘Start’ button.
You should then wait for the process to finish.
Once the Remix OS Installation tool has finished processing, restart your computer, and you will see a new option like this:
You can always choose which OS you want to boot in. Select the Remix OS to start it for the first time.
It will take some time to boot, leave it alone if you see an screen like below. These are not errors, but Remix OS preparing to boot.
That’s it. You can now enjoy all the Android Apps directly on your PC without using any emulator. Remix OS runs as smooth as Windows. Please let us know what do you think about this new OS in the comments.
